Anthropolog(y)ie

I will be the first to admit my surprise at how different Anthropologie is from other stores. It was weird to feel the sensation that I could work at a place like this...a place that sells women's clothes?
Anthropology is the study of humanity: physiological, psychological, cultural, societal relationships.

Quick description
Demographic: Women with disposable income that own a home ages 35-50 years old
Owned by: Urban Outfitters
Style changes: home and apparel every 6 months
Display changes: every 4-6 weeks
Hierarchy of control: Owner/Boss->District (multiple states)->Region (multiple stores)->Store

Each store is designed by a different firm in the city of its location. Displays are driven by concept, handed down from a higher level of the company to all stores. Strict adherence to the examples is not expected. Each store has a design manager and design coordinator which interpret the concepts and examples in their own unique way. They have a budget for materials every month and frequently venture out to purchase used/recycled items to use on display in the store. Props include but are not limited to, for example, old suitcases, hay, plastic containers, and antiques.

There were two jobs in particular that I think I would enjoy: design coordinator and "found objects/antiques aquisitionist." The first gets their own work shop in the back of the store with tools and materials at their disposal to build things for display in the store. The latter travels 6 months out of the year (not limited to the U.S.) looking for and acquiring antiques for sale/display in the stores.

Pretty awesome. They are opening one in Greensboro in November from what I hear....
